Monuments[]

# Monument Levels Requirement Image
Bricks Hats Gems Green Gems
1 Bayerische Staatsoper 1-10
Munich Stamp01
The opera house was ravaged by fire in 1823 and rebuilt in 1825, only to be destroyed by a 1943 bombing raid. It took another 20 years to be rebuilt this time, opening to a performance of Wagner's Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg in 1963.
2 Allianz Arena 11-20
Munich Stamp02
The stadium was he first in the world to switch exterior lighting depending upon which teams are playing. Unfortunately, multi-colored teams are out of luck. The Munich police banned the practice after several car accidents were blamed on distracted drivers.
3 Frauenkirche 21-30 220,000 - - -
Munich Stamp03
While much of the church's interior was destroyed during WWII, the Teufelstritt - or Devil's Footstep - remains. According to legend, this black footprint-like mark was where the devil stood when he made fun of the windowless cathedral. No word on why he was standing on one foot at the time.
4 Residenz Muenchen 31-40 265,000 - - 4
Munich Stamp04
It's possible to experience museum fatigue just hearing that there are 130 halls of treasures to explore, including objects collected by Bavarian rulers since the Middle Ages. Sadly, no awards are bestowed upon the tourists who manage to see the entire museum in a single day.
5 Alte Pinakothek 41-50 270,000 300,000 - 6
Munich Stamp05
The vast museum is noted for stunning works by German and Dutch masters, including Rubens' gigantic "Last Judgement." The piece is so large, the hall had to be custom-designed around it.
6 Deutsches Museum 51-60
Munich Stamp06
Among the exhibits in this child-friendly science museum: A complete petrol station, and the bench where the atom was first split in 1938.
7 New Town Hall 61-70 350,000 300,000 - 4
Munich Stamp07
The world famous Munich Glockenspeil uses full-size figures to show a royal wedding, and the blessing of the night watchman. Even those who aren't watching must know the time of day by the performance, as it ends each time by the sounding of 43 bells.
8 Karls Gate 71-80 360,000 350,000 - 6
Munich Stamp08
The famous gate was the subject of speculation after workers discovered a brick escape tunnel while they were building transportation pathways for the 1972 Summer Olympics. It was apparently used by soldiers or civilians to either escape or get behind enemy lines.
9 Nymphenburg 81-90 450,000 430,000 200,000
Munich Stamp09
While the size of this historic Versailles-influenced palace might be less than cozy, at least one royal call it home. Despite the number of visiting tourists, the Duke of Bavaria still lives there.
10 Circus Krone 91-100 500,000 400,000 310,000 29
Munich Stamp10
One of the largest and oldest circuses in the world enjoys ticket sales of nearly 1.3 million yearly - and requires a mind-boggling 400 performers, 250 animals and 330 wagons.
11 Munich Uptown 101-110 550,000 410,000 440,000 8
Munich Stamp11
The building, while a triumph of architecture, sadly obscured the historic vista of Nymphenburg Palace. This understandably displeased residents, and culminated in an "Our Munich" initiative in 2004 - preventing other buildings of this height from being built in Munich.
12 Schloss Allach 111-120 670,000 600,000 590,000 8
Munich Stamp12
The last owner of the castle, Ludwig Gilmer, originally intended the castle as his retirement home. When the war made his dream somewhat unlikely, he decided to sell the mansion to the Bavarian Motor Works 119,500 Reichsmark, or the equivalent of $46,000.
